(MUNCIE) - The Muncie Red Cross is trying to coordinate more help for as many as 50 people left homeless by a Saturday apartment fire.

The Red Cross convened a meeting of landlords, community organizations, churches, Delaware County's center township trustee, and others to sort out who can provide what to families in need.

Mark Slusher with the Red Cross says it's the largest fire response in the Muncie chapter's history.

Slusher says some families took refuge in a Red Cross shelter immediately after the fire at the Thomas Apartments. Everyone has now found other accommodations, but Slusher says there's still a need for food and clothing.

30 people lived in the three-story apartment house. Some neighbors were forced from their homes by power outages or worries about falling debris.
