(UNDATED) - State health officials want parents to be sure their children are vaccinated against serious, vaccine-preventable diseases and illnesses like measles and the flu.
State Health Commissioner Dr. Judy Monroe says although childhood diseases aren't usually seen in the U.S. anymore, they still circulate throughout the world and can be only a plane ride away.
Dr. Monroe says the number of vaccines available today makes a child's immunization schedule very complex. She urges parents to ask their health care provider to enter any vaccinations their children receive into the state "Children and Hoosiers Immunization Registry Program" or "CHIRP".
The registry keeps track of the child's immunization schedule and helps the state health department maintain a sufficient stock of vaccines. (chirp.in.gov)
