Former Gang Leader Back In Custody

Last updated on Thursday, September 11, 2008

(UNDATED) - The FBI says a former northwest Indiana gang leader is back in police custody following a four-year nationwide manhunt.

34-year-old Lashawn Tanner was arrested Tuesday night in Houston, Texas without incident.

FBI Special Agent Wendy Osborne says the former Indianapolis and West Lafayette resident was a major drug dealer when he fled Indiana. He also reportedly led the Renegades street gang with his two brothers.

Osborne says the gang was responsible for disturbing large quantities of powder cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana in northwest Indiana, during the late 1990's and continuing through 2004.

A tipster this week provided information that quickly led to Tanner's arrest.
