(INDIANAPOLIS) - The sluggish economy and down economic times are hurting most people, and really hurting donations to food banks and shelters.

Gleaners Food Bank President Pam Altmeyer says the volume of food is down and the donations they do receive are flying out the doors. Altmeyer says distribution is increasing and the need is rising.

She adds Gleaners will be in a jam in three to six weeks if donations don't keep pace with demand. Altmeyer says she's concerned with the drop in volume, but she expects Central Indiana residents to come through and allow the food bank to make it through their busiest time of the year, the upcoming holidays.

Anyone can donate to Gleaners from 6:30am to 5pm Monday through Friday.
