First Responders Deal With Images Of US-24 Bus Crash

Last updated on Tuesday, September 30, 2008

(LOGANSPORT) - 25 Cass County emergency first responders spoke at a critical stress debriefing on Monday. They were among the 40 members of several emergency departments who dealt with the deaths of four children in the bus crash on U.S. 24 near Logansport on Friday.

Cass County Emergency Management Director Alvin Beckman says many are having a difficult time dealing with what they saw.

The debriefing gave them the opportunity to express their emotions and hear the stories of others who also experienced the tragedy.

Beckman says critical stress management sessions are usually offered in schools or factories where tragedies have occurred. But he thinks they're not held as often as they should be for emergency first responders.
