Deflation Of Dome Presents No Safety Concerns To Spectators

Last updated on Tuesday, September 23, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Wednesday’s deflation of the RCA Dome is expected to be a spectator sport.

When Market Square Arena came down seven years ago, state police warned people not to clog downtown to watch. But that was an implosion. There are no safety concerns with the deflation -- former mayor Bill Hudnut will turn off the fans which keep the dome up, and it'll gradually sag down over the course of 30 or 40 minutes.

The deflation should be visible throughout downtown, especially in the city's high-rise buildings with a view from overhead.
