Thousands Flock To Downtown Indy This Weekend

Last updated on Friday, August 15, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Take the official opening of Lucas Oil Stadium, add one of the biggest events held at the convention center and you’ve got a busy weekend in Downtown Indianapolis.

35,000 attendees are expected for the Gen Con game fair running through Sunday at the Indiana Convention Center. The Lucas Oil Stadium ribbon cutting ceremony is Saturday morning at 9 followed by waves of public tours every two hours.

Colts season ticket holders take the tour on Sunday afternoon. Plus the Indians have Saturday and Sunday home games at Victory Field and there's the WWE Superslam Sunday evening at Conseco Fieldhouse.

The folks who promote downtown for events like these say Indianapolis can handle it, but they ask you to plan ahead for parking. They suggest visiting IndyDT.com to locate your primary parking choice but also find one or two options.

There are 40,000 parking spaces within a six block radius of Lucas Oil Stadium and plenty of police officers will be downtown to help. Just allow extra time to get around and bring a comfortable pair of walking shoes.
