(UNDATED) - Support is growing to allow Sunday alcohol sales in Indiana.

A statewide coalition, Hoosiers For Beverage Choices, recently launched a web site to collect online petitions to encourage legislators to repeal restrictions on cold beer sales and Sunday sales of alcoholic beverages in drug, grocery and convenience stores.

Within one week of the coalition's website launch, more than 10,000 Hoosiers from all 92 Indiana counties signed the online petition.

Currently, only package liquor stores can sell cold beer, and stores cannot sell any beer on Sundays. Indiana is one of only 15 states that completely prohibit the carry-out sale of alcoholic beverages on Sundays.

Grant Monahan, President of the Indiana Retail Council says Indiana's alcohol laws need to move into the 21st century. He says consumers want convenience and the choice.

The coalition includes 23 retailers and three trade associations: the Indiana Retail Council, the Indiana Petroleum Council and the Indiana Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association.

The petition can be found at the coalition's web site, www.beveragechoices.com.
