(INDIANAPOLIS) - We're two days away from opening day for this year's state fair.

Some of the livestock shows have been going on since last week. With opening day looming, the job of assembling the midway has begun.

State Fair Commission Executive Director Cindy Hoye says the fairgrounds have added a new covered bridge as part of this year's spotlight on the Indiana hardwood industry.

And it wouldn't be the state fair without a new calorie-laden food offering. This year: deep-fried bananas foster cheesecake.

The 12-day fair expands to 17 days next year, and fair officials are already experimenting with some changes. This year's fair will open at 8:00am most days instead of six, to see if labor costs can be held down without hurting attendance. And the fair will offer $5 admission after 5:00pm on August 13, with an eye to possibly offering more discounts next year.
