(WEST LAYETTE) - A 19-year-old Purdue University sophomore is in serious condition after falling three stories from the balcony of a friend's apartment in West Lafayette.

19-year-old Joseph Miller of Portage returned to the apartment and knocked on the door, but campus police say he was not able to tell them how it happened and there are no witnesses.

Investigators say there's no sign that drugs or alcohol were involved and they do not suspect foul play.
