(UNDATED) - Indiana Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman wants you to make one simple change at home to conserve energy. She’s asking every Hoosier to replace at least one standard lightbulb with a new compact florescent bulb or “CFL”.
Visitors who stop by he "Hoosiers Care" booth in the "Our Land" pavilion during the Indiana State Fair get a free CFL while supplies last.
Tom easterly with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management says CFL's use 75 percent less energy than standard bulbs and last up to ten times longer. Replacing just one 60-watt bulb with a CFL should save about $30 in utility costs over the life of the bulb.
The lieutenant governor is also asking children who visit the fair to do their part by signing a pledge card agreeing to reduce wasting energy. Conservation steps for kids include shutting off the water when they're brushing their teeth or turning off gaming systems when they're not playing with them.
