Deputy Faces Charges Following Incident With Teenage Girls

Last updated on Tuesday, August 19, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - 24-year-old Joey Smith — a former special deputy at the Marion County Jail — has been arraigned on felony intimidation and confinement charges.

He's accused of asking two teenage girls to lift their shirts, claiming he was a detective investigating a report about flashers. The girls refused, one of them threatening to call her mother.

A superior court commissioner has ordered Smith placed on home detention, with a monitoring device, while he awaits trial. If convicted, he could get eight years in prison and a $10,000 dollar fine.
