Two Hoosier Girls Make Olympic Team

Last updated on Wednesday, July 23, 2008

(UNDATED) - Two Indiana girls are headed to Beijing for a lifetime opportunity to make history.

Samantha Peszek of McCordsville and Bridget Sloan of Pittsboro were named to the U.S. Gymnastics team to complete in the summer Olympic games.

Peszek says she is still shocked she made the team and the road ahead hasn't really sunk in yet. The complete team roster was just announced on Saturday.

Peszek says it is rare to have two girls from the same gym make the team, let along the same state, so the opportunity to compete with someone she has known for a long time is also great.

Peszek was introduced to the sport at the age of 2 and is now a junior at Cathedral High School.

Both girls will fly out to Texas to meet and train with the rest of the team before heading to California for their flight to Beijing. The Summer Olympic Games begin in China August 8th.
