"Mother" Found Not Guilty In Child's Death

Last updated on Thursday, July 24, 2008

(LAPORTE) - A jury has found a woman not guilty in the death of a newborn baby.

Kathy Phillips was charged with murder and neglect after a newborn baby was found in a field near her Laporte County home in 2006. Her husband found the baby in trash bag.

A geneticist told jurors that Kathy Phillips is the mother of the baby. But Phillips' mother says her daughter was never pregnant.

The cause of the baby's death is unknown.
