(UNDATED) - A back-to-school campaign to get kids signed up for low-cost government insurance this year is branching out to their parents and other adults.
State government and health leaders are reaching out to low-income families, asking them to enroll their children in Hoosier Healthwise. Advocates are also encouraging adults to join the new Healthy Indiana plan.
Covering Kids & Families of Indiana spokeswoman Katie Humphreys says more than half a million Hoosier children and adults who lack basic health care coverage might qualify for free or low-cost health insurance through the programs.
Hoosier Healthwise provides medical care to more than 500,000 low-income children, pregnant women and certain very low-income adults. The Healthy Indiana plan was launched earlier this by the state to provide low-cost coverage to uninsured adults earning up to twice the poverty level.
