Ex-Offenders Receive Workforce Assistance

Last updated on Tuesday, July 22, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS)- Helping ex-offenders successfully re-enter the workforce in Marion County is a top priority of Indianapolis city officials.

Mayor Greg Ballard says about 5,000 ex-offenders re-enter society every year in Marion County alone. But within three years, 74% wind up back in prison.

The mayor wants to improve that statistic and has announced a program that tracks the ex-offenders and offers them workshops and training.

Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy is honorary chairman of the effort.
