Despite Gas Prices, Hoosiers Still Trying Lotto Luck

Last updated on Monday, July 7, 2008

(UNDATED) - The Hoosier Lottery says high gas prices and a sluggish economy aren’t stopping Indiana residents from trying their luck.

Spokesman Andrew Reed reports players spent about $780 million dollars in 2007 -- a slight decrease from the $816 million dollar total in 2006. He says most lottery players are educated people with decent income levels.

The five dollar "Gas For Life" game was introduced in late May. Players can win up to 50 years of gas -- or they can opt for a lump sum payment.
