Police Outraged By Fake Amber Alert

Last updated on Friday, June 6, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A mom who allegedly faked an Amber Alert earlier this week is now facing charges for false reporting using an Amber Alert.

26-year-old Maria Lopez lied to police and told them her ex-boyfriend had taken her two kids. Indianapolis Metro Police are outraged.

Sergeant Matt Mount says, in actuality, the car she reported stolen was never hers to begin with. Furthermore, Mount says Lopez was trying to get back at her ex, Ignacio Cruz, and decided to try and get him in trouble.

Five-year-old Ashley Delarosa and three-year-old Anthony Lopez were at a babysitter's apartment nearby.

Mount says Lopez wasted manhours and money by lying. Mount says they lost an estimated $5,000 dollars because of Lopez's story.
