Grant County Considers Closing Offices On Friday To Save Money

Last updated on Wednesday, June 25, 2008

(MARION) - Grant County commissioners are considering closing county offices on Fridays to save on utility costs.

Commissioner David Glickfield has introduced a proposal to close the county's office building one extra day each week, leaving a four-day work week. Most county employees currently work 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with one-hour lunch breaks, for 35-hour work weeks.

Glickfield proposes that they work 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or 32 hours a week, and take Fridays off. Their pay would remain the same.

The proposal must be approved by the county council before it would take effect.
