(MICHIGAN CITY) - The superintendent of the state prison in Michigan City will become Indiana’s new corrections commissioner.
Governor Mitch Daniels has named 42-year-old Edwin Buss to lead the Department of Correction starting August 1st. He'll take over for David Donahue, who is resigning to become warden of the Kentucky state reformatory.
Buss is a native of LaPorte and has been superintendent of the Indiana state prison since 2005. Before that, he was superintendent of the Westville Correctional Facility, the state's largest prison.
Buss began his career as a correctional officer at the Indiana State Prison in 1987. In 1997, he was named a correctional unit team manager at the prison. He then served as the prison's assistant superintendent of operations and programs from 1998 to 2001.
