Additional Arrests Possible In Bank Teller Shooting

Last updated on Tuesday, June 24, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - More arrests are possible in the shooting of a pregnant Huntington bank teller during an April robbery.

Marion County prosecutors have formalized attempted murder, robbery, feticide and firearms charges against Brian Kendrick, and a conspiracy to commit robbery charge against Aaron Stewart.

Court records say a witness reported two other people in Kendrick's getaway car. Prosecutor Carl Brizzi won't comment on whether those people have been identified or whether they'll face charges.

Kendrick is accused of recruiting Stewart to assist in the robbery by supplying his SUV as a getaway car. Witnesses reported Stewart's Trailblazer and a second vehicle fleeing the scene of the eastside holdup.

Court records say Kendrick allegedly jumped the counter after failing to get a side door to the teller station open. He allegedly shot Katherin Shuffield in the abdomen as the teller was backing away. Shuffield was five months' pregnant with twins. She miscarried two days after the shooting.

Brizzi says it's still unknown why Shuffield was shot. Stewart allegedly told police he was caught by surprise.

A witness says Stewart told him he'd kill Kendrick because the robbery "wasn't supposed to go down that way."

Kendrick could face 20-to-87 years in prison if convicted. Stewart faces six-to-20.
