(INDIANAPOLIS) - It's now up to the Indianapolis city- county council to act on a resolution to return the name of Colonel Harvey Weir Cook to Indianapolis International Airport.
A council committee failed to approve a proposal to recommend the change because of the lack of a majority.
Veteran Dwight Smith said the airport board's decision in 1976 to remove Cook's name from the airport was a serious insult to the memory of a fallen hero. Even 11- year old Rachel McCartney stepped before the microphone to say the airport wouldn't be what or where it is now without Cook and he deserves to have his name on it.
The issue goes before the full council next week but , if they approve, they'll still have to convince the airport authority board to make the change.
