More Indiana Counties Implimenting Sex Offender E-Alerts

Last updated on Friday, May 23, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Marion County sheriff’s department is jumping on-board a program already being used by three other Indiana counties and all of Ohio - sex offender e-alerts.

A person can sign up for the alerts via the sheriff's department website. If a sex offender moves into your neighborhood, you'll receive an e-alert with the person's information.

Michael Cormaci with Offender Watch Systems says several hundred thousand people are getting the alerts in Ohio. Cormaci says the alerts are also helpful for boy and girl scout leaders who are wanting to sell cookies door-to-door.

Three other Indiana counties are already using the program - Allen, Blackford, and Grant counties.
