Child Rapist Appears In Court

Last updated on Thursday, May 22, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A 20-year-old man will spend 32 years behind bars for breaking into a home last summer, raping a five-year-old girl, and giving her an STD.

Jesus Valenzuela hung his head and said very little during his sentencing hearing Wednesday.

Prosecutors described graphic details about the night Valenzuela broke into a home in the 6000 block of Sunman Drive. Valenzuela admitted to trying to steal a few things. He then went into the little girl's bedroom. The girl's mother found him and several older children held him down until police arrived.

The girl tested positive for Chlamydia, as did Valenzuela.

Prosecuting attorney Gillian Deprez says Valenzuela brutalized this little girl and drove the family to move out of the area.

He tearfully apologized to the court. Through an interpreter, he said, "I was drunk - I didn't know what I was doing."
