Last updated on Sunday, April 6, 2008

(WABASH) - Wabash has made the big screen. Well, at least a reference to Wabash has.

The city is mentioned in a scene from the new film "Leatherheads," starring George Clooney and Rene Zellweger. The movie is about professional football in the early 1920s.

Reference to playing against the team from Wabash is made by an actor in one of the scenes. Wabash did have a football team during that era - the Wabash Athletic Association.

The team, according to the Wabash County history book published in 1976, existed from 1898 to 1912. It played 73 games, earning a record of 61-6-6.
