Last updated on Thursday, April 10, 2008

(MUNCIE) - A Republican voter registration deputy faces battery charges.

Police say 56-year-old Will Statom assaulted a Muncie newspaper reporter and also struck a Democratic 6th district congressional candidate who tried to break up the fight.

Nick Werner said the incident began when Statom made a sarcastic remark about his reporting following a Delaware County election board meeting.
