Gunman May Have Called 911 After Shooting Wife, Child

Last updated on Wednesday, April 2, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A gunman may have dialed 911 Tuesday after allegedly shooting his daughter and wife to death on Indianapolis’ southwest side.

Police Sergeant Matthew Mount says investigators are still trying to determine if the call was placed by Stephen Johnson, but whoever made the call, told dispatchers where to find the bodies of 49-year-old Renne Johnson and 14-year-old Rebecca Johnson.

Mount says a suicide note was found, but they're not releasing any details of it.

Stephen Johnson was also found dead at the scene with what appears to be a self-inflicted gun wound.

Police call the shooting a tragedy that likely could have been prevented had the family sought help for their situation. But the exact nature of the situation remains unknown.
