Black Caucus Remembers MLK

Last updated on Saturday, April 5, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus marked the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s assassination by hosting an event next to the Indianapolis park named in his honor.

State representative Vanessa Summers says the caucus commemorated the anniversary near the spot where Bobby Kennedy helped keep the city from erupting into violence. Kennedy went to that spot, despite a request to cancel the appearance by Senator Richard Lugar.

40 years later, the Black Caucus hopes it reminds Hoosiers to pick peace over revenge.

The commemoration also featured activities from a local youth group and exhibits from state, city and civic groups.
