(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Marion County property value reassessments are done. The county's total assessed value increased by nearly 11%, or about $5.6 billion.
Commercial and industrial properties took the biggest hit, with their assessed values increasing by more than 30%.
So, what does that mean for homeowners? Mary Jane Michalak with the Department of Local Government Finance says tax bills should go down a little bit.
The DLGF also has a new calculator on their website for homeowners in Shelby and Marion Counties, the last two counties to have their assessments redone.
State and county officials have to do some more number-crunching. Twenty counties across the state were reassessed over the last few months. Marion and Shelby were the only two that included residential properties in the numbers.
Marion County Assessor Greg Bowes says new bills will go in the mail in June and will be due in July.
