(WINAMAC) - After receiving reports of a man in a white van repeatedly watching children arriving and departing a school in Winamac, police conducted surveillance and arrested a fugitive.

Police set up surveillance at the school on Friday morning, interviewed the driver of the van and released him. He was stopped just north of Winamac after police determined he was a fugitive from Porter County.

The suspect, 56 year-old Gerhard A. Hoffmann, of Winamac, was arrested for outstanding warrants of battery and contempt of court.
