(HAMMOND) - The Gary police chief and two of his top deputies made their first appearance in federal court Thursday.
Justice department officials have been investigating an incident in which Chief Thomas Houston, Deputy Chief Thomas Branson and Sergeant Thomas Decanter allegedly performed an illegal search of a suspect's home, then battered three suspects before throwing them in jail for nearly three days without probable cause.
