Study Finds Hoosiers Vitamin D Deficient

Last updated on Wednesday, February 27, 2008

(UNDATED) - Here’s something you probably didn’t think of…you are probably Vitamin D deficient right now.

The UV Foundation has dubbed February as "Vitamin D Deficiency Month" since people who live above the 37th Parallel don't get enough sunlight in general for 6 months out of the year. Where is that parallel, you ask?

Well, the deficiency zone draws a line from Richmond, Virginia to St. Louis, Missouri to Sacramento, California.

The UV Foundation says a study done by Boston University's medical school has found people in Indiana and other states similar and north are 74% deficient in Vitamin D, which would partially explain those winter blues people feel.

They say Vitamin D deficiency has many symptoms in the winter, including fatigue, depression, and aches.
