Principal Resigns Following DUI Charges

Last updated on Friday, February 8, 2008

(FISHERS) - Fishers High School Principal Scott Syverson has resigned, more than a month after a controversial traffic stop for drunken driving.

Syverson was not present for the morning meeting when the Hamilton Southeastern School Board accepted his resignation. Syverson was suspended by the school board after getting pulled over for suspected drunk driving last December in Hamilton County.

The case sparked criticism after police acknowledged the officer had given Syverson a ride home rather than arrest him. Hamilton County Prosecutor Sonia Leerkamp eventually filed DUI charges anyway, based in part on video from the officer's in-car camera.
