(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indy's attempt to combine six township fire departments with IFD may go down to defeat for a fourth straight year.

House Ways and Means Chairman William Crawford has cancelled a scheduled hearing on the plan. He says he wants to wait until next year and consider similar measures for all 92 counties, as envisioned in the Kernan-Shepard commission report.

Indianapolis Senator Jim Merritt, who authored the bill, accuses Crawford of gamesmanship.
