Mother Passes Out, Falls On Toddler

Last updated on Thursday, February 7, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A two-year-old Indianapolis boy is dead, and his mother is in jail on a felony neglect charge.

Sheldon Bartlen was found unconscious in an eastside hotel room at 12:30 Wednesday morning.

Indy Metro Police Sergeant Matt Mount says the boyfriend of 24 year old Latasha McMorris found her passed out on top of her son. The boyfriend called 911, and the toddler was taken to Community East Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 1:00am.

Mount says McMorris probably passed out from drugs or alcohol. McMorris's children had been temporarily taken away from her last July when she was arrested on another child neglect charge.
