Mortgage Broker Swindles Couple, Faces Prison Time

Last updated on Thursday, February 21, 2008

(DANVILLE) - An Indianapolis mortgage broker has been convicted of swindling a Hendricks County couple.

A jury convicted Jason Keigley of first place mortgage on four felony counts. Prosecutors say Keigley sold the couple an unregistered security, and told them their money was in an interest-bearing account. When they tried to close their account, authorities say Keigley could produce neither the account nor the money.

The couple nearly lost their home to foreclosure before an investigator with the Secretary of State's office intervened.

A jury convicted Keigley of selling an unregistered security, not registering as a broker, securities fraud and loan broker fraud. He faces up to 13 years in prison.
