Evansville Police To Allow Lateral Transfers

Last updated on Sunday, February 10, 2008

(EVANSVILLE) - A hiring program that may go into effect later this year could make joining the Evansville Police Department more attractive for officers currently serving on police departments in other communities.

Evansville Police Chief Brad Hill said his department will seek a change in a city ordinance to allow for lateral transfers.

That's a hiring practice that allows police officers to retain certain benefits when they switch from one department to another.

Lateral transfers also shorten the introductory probationary period for training.
