War Memorial Named Site For Indy Mayor Transition

Last updated on Tuesday, January 1, 2008

(UNDATED) - Today is inauguration day for dozens of new mayors across Indiana, including in the state’s two largest cities.

Indianapolis Mayor-Elect Greg Ballard will take the oath of office at the Indiana War Memorial this afternoon.

The former marine says the last few weeks have been a blur. He says he is ready to get down to business and is already strategizing about what to go after in the 2008 legislative session. State lawmakers will convene next week.

Ballard says he will push for property tax reform, consolidation of township government, and the merger of Marion County's township fire departments into the Indianapolis Fire Department.

In Fort Wayne, Mayor-Elect Tom Henry takes the oath of office to replace fellow Democrat Graham Richard.
