Teen Faces Charges In Infant's Death

Last updated on Wednesday, January 30, 2008

(LOUISVILLE, KY.) - A former college student from Indiana accused of murdering her newborn daughter and concealing the body faces a September trial in Louisville, Kentucky.

19-year-old Kathryn "Katie" McCoy of Plainfield is scheduled for trial on September 23rd in Jefferson Circuit Court. She was in court this morning with her parents, but did not speak during a brief hearing.

The former Bellarmine University golf player has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence. Prosecutors say McCoy gave birth to a baby girl in the bathroom of her dorm room on October 26th, then let the infant fall into the toilet.

One of McCoy's attorneys says an initial review of the evidence doesn't back a murder charge.
