Teen Asks For Sugar, Then Attempts Robbery

Last updated on Wednesday, January 9, 2008

(MUNCIE) - A Muncie man foiled an armed robbery attempt at his home by grabbing the intruder’s rifle, smashing the weapon and holding the teenage suspect until police arrived.

54-year-old Garry Roberts says the teen came to his door Sunday and asked to borrow a cup of sugar. He says when he returned from the kitchen, the youth had donned a ski mask and was pointing a gun and demanding money.

Roberts threw the suspect against the front door, breaking it, then took him outside to a neighbor's house and called police.

17-year-old David Anthony Alva is being held in the Delaware County Jail on preliminary charges of armed robbery, burglary while armed with a deadly weapon, pointing a firearm and residential entry.
