(UNDATED) - With bitterly cold temperatures, homeless shelters across the state are opening their doors to people.

In Indianapolis, some shelters are well over capacity. The Wheeler Mission opened their overflow shelter on the East Side to more than 140 men and also have a couple dozen sleeping on the floor at the Downtown location.

Steve Kerr with Wheeler Ministries says he saw people sleeping in doorways Wednesday morning on his way to work and that is deeply concerning.

At the Lighthouse Mission in Terre Haute, officials say they still have plenty of beds open.

Reverend Tim Fagg says he is also concerned about people who might think they can rough it in their cars or in abandoned buildings with temperatures hovering near the zero mark.
