(INDIANAPOLIS) - It appears the proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages in Indiana is likely done for this session.

State Representative Scott Pelath (D-Michigan City) says the most pressing issue facing the state legislature is not same-sex marriage, but property taxes. Pelath is chairman of the House Rules and Legislative Procedure Committee.

Same-sex marriage is already banned under Indiana law. To become part of Indiana's constitution, the proposed amendment has to pass two separately elected legislatures and then go to a statewide ballot.

If it doesn't pass this year, the voters might not see it on the ballot until at least 2012.
