Purdue Students Stuck In Strife-Torn Kenya

Last updated on Saturday, January 5, 2008

(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Purdue University officials are working to get students in study abroad programs in strife-torn Kenya back home.

The school has two grad students and a doctoral student there. This week's violence in the East African country hasn't slowed down. The clashes began Monday after an opposition party claimed a presidential election was rigged. Hundreds have died, and thousands can't go back to their homes.

The students had been in the tiny town of Eldoret, but they were moved to a safe haven about 120- miles east.

Purdue is trying to get the students on a flight out of Kenya's capital city of Nairobi.
