Police Seek Father In Shooting Investigation

Last updated on Thursday, January 31, 2008

(GARY) - The father of a 13-month-old boy shot to death during what was reported as a carjacking is in custody on an unrelated warrant.

Gary police say 34-year-old Terry Bethel is considered a person of interest in the investigation. He's being held in the Porter County Jail for failure to appear in court on a traffic violation.

Bethel has not been charged in the murder of Josiah Shaw or the shooting of the boy's mother, 29-year-old Kwana Shaw. She remains in critical condition.

Gary police say they are seeking one or more other individuals in the case.

Shaw was putting Josiah into her sport utility vehicle on Monday when a man shot her multiple times and stole her truck. The boy was found in the truck several blocks away.
