National "Start" Challenge Features Fort Wayne Man

Last updated on Monday, January 14, 2008

(FORT WAYNE) - The first-ever national “Start” challenge is on.

The competition, launched by the American Heart Association, encourages people to take control of their health by walking and making healthy life changes.

One of the six competitors chosen nationwide is Mike Defrew from Fort Wayne. He says his family's history of high blood pressure encouraged him to enter the competition.

Defrew traveled to New York City, appearing with spokesperson Donny Osmond and made the rounds of the TV talk shows.

Another health screening and online voting by the public is just one part of the way the winner will be determined in mid-April.
