Months Later, Burglars Still Sought In BMV Robbery

Last updated on Wednesday, January 16, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - It’s been about eight months since burglars broke into a BMV branch on Indianapolis’ West Side and stole a large safe.

While Indy Metro Police still aren't saying much about who might be responsible, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles has put in place some much tougher safeguards, no pun intended.

Spokesman Dennis Rosebrough says they've not only changed the type of safes inside the branches, but the safes are now bolted to the ground.

Thieves were able to get the safe through the front door of the branch. It was filled with checks and cash. Police later found parts of the safe near the crime scene.

Indy Metro Police say they're still investigating. No arrests have been made yet.
