(UNDATED) - Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter wants to stop the state’s registered sex offenders from going on-line using social networking sites to make contact with young people. Carter says this law would be the state’s first attempt to stop that.
Carter says he's backing a bill in the 2008 legislature that has bipartisan support that would make it a felony for registered sex offenders to contact kids on sites like my-space and Facebook... that could lead to up to eight-years in prison.
Carter says it would also allow authorities to gather the user names and e-mail address of sex offenders so they can be compared with others that may come up during the course of an on-line predator investigation.
