Man Killed When Small Tractor Tips Over

Last updated on Saturday, January 26, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapois Metro Police are investigating the death of a 71 year old Speedway man who was apparently killed in an accident with a small tractor.

James Stephens appeared to have been operating the tractor in the driveway of the Marion County Fish and Game Association in the 7000 block of Crawfordsville Road.

Stephens may have fallen off the tractor or may have been checking the area of the mower deck when he was run over by the machine. The mower was not engaged.

A neighbor noticed the tractor on top of Stephens and called for emergency services. Stephens was reported to be the caretaker for the association. They had just recently taken delivery of the tractor and it was the first day it had been operated.

Members of the association also stated that Stephens had a safety briefing from a representative of the tractor sales company earlier Friday. There were no known witnesses to the event.
