(INDIANAPOLIS) - The terminal at Indianapolis International Airport is now smoke-free.

But smokers can still sneak a few puffs at the rest of the airport campus until at least Friday.

The Airport Authority Board voted in June to ban smoking at all airport-owned properties, starting with the new year. Since then, several service providers and other airport tenants have asked for exemptions, saying the ban could hurt their businesses.

The board will consider those requests at its Friday meeting. The public smoking room in the terminal will stay closed no matter what.

Airport Spokeswoman Susan Sullivan says ashtrays have been placed outside the terminal building, 30 feet from the doors.
