Exonerated Man Walks Free Following Two Decades Behind Bars

Last updated on Tuesday, January 29, 2008

(TERRE HAUTE) - An inmate who spent more than two decades in prison for a brutal slaying walked from a Terre Haute courthouse a free man after DNA evidence exonerated him.

39-year-old David L. Scott appeared in Vigo County Superior Court Monday morning for a release hearing. Prosecutors say DNA evidence clears him of the 1984 killing of 89-year-old Loretta Keith.

The evidence instead shows that Kevin Mark Weeks of Lagrange, KY., was the person who bludgeoned Keith to death in her bed with a hydraulic jack. Weeks was arrested Friday.
